Total Gym 3000 vs 2000

A review of these popular home gym models

The Total Gym 3000 is the mid-range model of the popular home exercise machines seen on countless informercials over the past few years. You've likely seen one of these spots on late night TV, with legendary martial artist Chuck Norris and model Christie Brinkley showing you all of the exercises you can perform.

Unlike other home gyms, these machines utilize resistance training, which means you work out with percentages of your own body weight rather than with a stack of plates. You simply change the height of the sliding bench to raise and lower the resistance, which changes the intensity of the workout.

The Total Gym 3000 offers more than 60 different exercises to provide a full body workout. It can accommodate up to 300 pounds and has a three month warranty on parts. It has a partial comfort system, an upgraded pulley and cable system, steel handles and chrome rails.

Additional features not found on the lower end Total Gym 2000 model are an exercise wall chart, a standard squat stand and a wing attachment. It also offers more exercise possibilities and a higher weight capacity.

You can take advantage of some really incredible prices on the official Total Gym website where you can often find savings up to 60% at various times of the year. They offer free shipping as well as special trial offers so definitely take a look.

Regular pricing on the Total Gym 3000 is about $1100 or so, the 2000 about $600 and the top of the lines XLS model about $2000. But you can save a ton with their sale pricing.

Total Gym 2000 or 3000? Which one is better?

You really can't go wrong with any of the Total Gyms. They are constantly improving all of the models, and the company has a very good reputation in the industry.

If it's between the Total Gym 3000 or 2000, we would opt for the 3000 just because you get at least 20 more exercises. The more exercises offered the more likely you are to find ones that really work for you. You also get the squat stand and wing attachment, which you might find useful. If you're a bit heavier the 3000 is probably a better fit.

When they have the special deals, and if you can swing it, go for the XLS if you can, because it's really a step up from the 3000 model. You get over 80 exercises, plus a number of extra DVDs and attachments, better warranty and higher weight capacity. But again, between the 2000 and 3000 either is a good choice.

Fitness Events Opinion & Recommendation:

While it's tough to duplicate a gym workout at home, resistance training has a lot of science behind it. So if you're looking for a way to build muscle and get in shape at home, a Total Gym 3000 or one of the two models is a good choice.

You can compare all three models, the Total Gym 3000, 2000 and XLS on the official Total Gym site, and see which one appeals to you the most.

Send us an email if you've used one of these home gyms and let us know your experiences. We'll share your reviews with our visitors to help them decide whether or not this is the right machine for them.
