5 Great Ab Workouts for Guys

Get that 6-pack look in just weeks with these exercises.

If you asked 100 guys what part of their body they need to work on, at least 90 of them will say their abs. Likely they will pat the area as they are saying this and it will make the "flab" sound, the sound of that extra weight that comes from too much beer, too many fried foods and/or a lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle.

Fortunately, with a little effort and determination, most of those 90 guys can have a flatter, more appealing abdominal area. It's just a matter of eating right and doing the right exercise.

Here are 5 of the best abdominal exercises for men to achieve that 6-pack look:

One great exercise to target your abs is the hip raise. For this, all you have to do is lay flat on your back with your legs stretched above you at a 90-degree angle to the rest of your body. You want to raise your hips up off the floor just a little bit. You should feel a tightening in your abs. Then lower your legs so that they are almost to the floor but not quite. This part you will definitely feel in your abs.

The next exercise that will target your abs is the crunch, but not just a regular crunch. For this exercise, you will need a dumbbell of whatever weight works for you. Hold the weight in both hands above your head and bend your body towards your knees, keeping your arms straight and moving them as if they were attached to your head. You will get all the great benefits of a crunch plus more because of this added weight., which you can increase as you get more comfortable with the exercise.

Another great ab exercise for men is a hanging crossover. You will need a bar that is equal to your height with your arms above your head. What you want to do is hang from the bar with your feet flat on the floor but without your knees having to bend. You will keep your legs together and, using your abs, bring your knees up to your right, lower your legs almost to the floor and then bring your knees back up toward your left. Repeat the process.

Planks are yet another great ab and core exercise. This exercise requires you to begin by lying on your stomach instead of your back. Now go up on just your forearms and toes. Your body from your head to your heels should form a line straight into the floor. All you have to do is hold this position for as long as you can. Start with 30 seconds and see if you can work your way up to 2 minutes.

The last great ab exercise for men is using the stability ball to do crunches. The added effort of having to stay balanced on a ball makes this exercise even more effective at burning fat on your abs. You will lay on your back on the ball with your feet flat on the floor. Even this will use your abs so that you can balance. Then you will want to move your upper body towards the lower half of your body while still maintaining that balance. It will take a lot more effort than you think.

For many men, staying fit and in shape is a matter of pride. With just these few simple exercises, you will be able to tone up your abs and get that great six-pack that you've always wanted. All it will take is a few minutes each day and you will be on your way.
